RISE UP TRAINING Santa Monica, West LA’s first and only obstacle race training gym, is looking for trainer/coaches to help further our mission to empower people in shattering preconceptions about their limitations, realize and achieve their athletic potential and conquer obstacles both on the course and in life.

We will need well-rounded performance-based coaches to help grow our client-base, expand our class schedule, and bolster our clients’ confidence in learning the skills, technique and conditioning to succeed in obstacle races.

Job Responsibilities

  • Nurture and embody the spirit, culture and community of the gym through our core values (this is THE most important thing - if you don’t have this, please don’t apply)

  • Lead in the direction and management of scheduled small group training classes, with a specialized focus on training for Obstacle Course Races

  • Create and implement 60-minute workout classes that meet the thematic requirements of the class schedule and fit with RISE UP Training Santa Monica standards

  • Assist clients in reaching their fitness goals while remaining suitable to their current physical abilities and skills; have an adaptable approach

  • Provide fitness consultations and evaluations to prospective new clients

  • Teach clients on the proper techniques for all exercises and obstacles, to provide them foundations for achieving success and to minimize the risk of injury

  • Monitor clients on their progress and performance and suggest modifications to account for injuries or deficiencies

  • Enforce all gym policies and safety rules to reduce the chance of any accidents and to maintain a safe and comfortable environment in which clients can exercise.

  • Manage and monitor class attendance through gym software; ensure that the accounts of clients in attendance are in good standing

  • Perform basic first aid when needed, including treating minor injuries with bandages; be prepared for emergency first aid protocol

  • Clean, organize and maintain all fitness equipment and gym space so that it is ready for clients to use at any time.

Job Skills & Qualifications


  • Current accredited personal training certification

  • At least 1-2 years of experience as a personal trainer and/or group exercise instructor

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Current certificate in CPR/AED and First Aid

  • Team player with a “no job is too small” attitude


  • Established experience in and passion for Spartan Races and other obstacle races

  • Spartan SGX Certified

  • BS in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or associated field

  • Experience and comfort in membership-based sales
